It’s the day you’ve been planning forever, the day you and your beloved will say your “I DO’s”, in front of Family & Friends. Your beloved has taken his place, with anticipation of seeing his Beautiful Bride. The Wedding Procession will start soon, and then all eyes will be on you, the BRIDE!

Historically, there are two reasons for Aisle Runners:

1. Practical Purposes– In the days of no paved roads, it was hard to get around without tracking mud, dirt and debris into the church. So, not wanting to ruin the Brides Dress, a white runner was laid down the center of the church’s aisle.

2. Spiritual Myth– In ancient times, it was thought that evil spirits lurked beneath the earth’s surface, and that they would rise up through the floor boards of the church. In order to protect the Bride & Groom from Evil, a white runner was laid on the ground. White was most commonly used, as a sign of purity.

Your Wedding Planner or Florist should block off the aisle with pretty ribbon, chiffon or cord…your guests should be seated from the outside of the pew/rows. This way, the runner will not be disturbed or soiled, before your processional.

Who walks down the Aisle is truly up to you. Some processions will have the entire Wedding Party, including Parents and Grandparents Walk the Aisle…while other Brides prefer that only they walk on the Runner. Again, it’s all about your preference.

Once your Ceremony has concluded, the entire Wedding Party will walk back down the Aisle.

There are so many Aisle Runners to choose from. But be cautious of a couple of things;

1. If your aisle will be on the grass, make sure a board is put under your runner, so that your heels don’t get caught in the runner and you don’t trip.

2. If you’re aisle is on the sand, use a fabric that’s not going to slip all over the place. I would recommend petals or burlap…or, as previously recommended, have a board underneath the runner.

3. Lastly, if your runner is not heavy enough to withstand windy conditions, make sure to use double sided tape every few inches, to ensure the runner doesn’t fly up!

Again, this is your day, when all eyes will be on you. How will you make your entrance?
